    I have friends who say they don't want to be that reachable. One even said
    that if his job made him get a pager, he'd "lose" it in the river.

    Are you saying that they still sell pagers??? I thought that type of
    service went the way of the horse-drawn buggies.

    The company may find it cheaper to replace your friend.

    in my area they still sell them. http://www.premierpaging.com The Tech for
    that company trained me on how to use their paging terminals. They are
    fading away as cell phones have become more popular. I could have a free
    account with them if I bought a pager, but I don't want to. if people want
    me they can call my cell.

    He eventually left, AFTER suing for many months of only occasional pay
    (owner's kid took over and ran the company into the ground).
