I got a Samsung GS3 with my contract, and the 2 years is up. That means the phone subsidy is paid off.
Can I get a new plan, cheaper, with the same phone now?

What do you mean exactly? With a different carrier?

No. Can I get a lower rate with Verizon for the same service, now that the 2 year subsidy is up?
I own the phone now, I should be able to get a better deal for service.

Unfortunately that's not how it works. I'm sure you can change options in your plan or update your plan to end up paying less, but the phone has nothing to do with the plan rates. You can, however, get a new phone for a discount and sell the old phone for a bit of a profit. I just sold my SIII for $120 on ebay.

Unfortunately is right. Sounds like a scam.
Soo, I can upgrade to an S5 for $250 - $150 rebate, sell my S3, and have money extra.
Not bad, but I want to keep the S3. It fits my pockets better.

Are you a Verizon employee? Just wondering.

If you want to keep the S3, I would get an iPhone 6 and sell it. *you'll have to sign a new 2 year contract) Take a look at what they're going for now: verizon iphone 6 16gb | eBay

No, I'm not an employee - this site is independent.

They like to keep you in a contract, and the payoff is that you get to own the latest and greatest phones. The old phone is yours, technically, but they will probably make you an offer you can't refuse to go with a new phone and a new plan.

If you want to keep your phone, you can. After all, it's yours. However, they will try to get you to sign a new contract. Honestly, I haven't seen as many deals that are as good as those where you get a new phone along with it.

How're you know? What has it all ended up with?
