How-to BlackBerry Priv: Back Up and Restore Personal Data

    Back Up App Data:
    1. Make sure you are signed in with the Google account you want to use for backing up app data
    2. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
    3. Access “Settings
    4. Tap “Backup & reset
    5. Tap “Backup account” if necessary, and select the Google account you want to use
    6. To back up Wi-Fi passwords, app data, and settings to your account, turn on “Back up my data
    7. To allow data to be restored automatically upon the next login with the Google backup account, enable “Automatic Restore
    Back Up Contacts:
    1. Launch “Contacts
    2. Tap “Menu
    3. Go to “Accounts
      • To back up contacts listed under email addresses: select the desired account, ensure “Contacts” is enabled, and tap “Menu” > “Sync now
      • Contacts under “Local contacts” can be backed up to your SIM or SD cards
    Back Up Contacts to SD:
    1. Launch “Contacts
    2. Tap “Menu” > “Import / Export
    3. Tap “Export to storage
    4. Make sure you remember the file name for future use and tap “OK” to confirm
    Restore Contacts from an SD Card:
    1. Open “Contacts
    2. Tap “MenuTap “Menu”
    3. Tap “Import / Export
    4. Tap “Import from storage” and follow one of the sets of steps below:
      • In case one backup file exists on the phone storage, the phone will import it automatically
      • In case multiple backup file exist, you will be required to select the backup file you want to import / restore
    Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:
    1. Connect the BlackBerry Priv to your computer via USB
    2. Swipe the “Status” bar down
    3. Enable “Media device (MTP)” if necessary
    4. Launch the File Explorer on the computer
    5. Use the Explorer to navigate to the phone storage and locate the media files you want to back up
    6. Copy the files and transfer them in the desired backup location on the computer
    7. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord
    Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:
    1. Establish a USB connection between the PC and Priv
    2. On the phone, drag the “Status” bar down and make sure “Media device (MTP)” is enabled
    3. Launch the File Explorer on the PC
    4. Use the Explorer to locate the media file backups on the computer
    5. Copy the files
    6. Transfer the files on the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” directory or the folder(s) the files originate from
    7. Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage from the system tray
    8. It’s now safe to disconnect the device from the USB
