How-to BlackBerry Priv: Factory Reset; Clear App Cache / Data; Safe Mode; Update OS

    Factory Reset:

    WARNING! When you factory reset your phone, all personal data stored on the phone’s internal memory will be deleted, including apps, contacts, ringtones, media files, downloaded content etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to default, factory values. However, data located on the SIM or SD cards will not be removed.

    NOTE: Before resetting the phone, you can visit this thread for instructions on how you can back up and restore data on the BlackBerry Priv. To factory reset your phone:
    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Access “Settings
    3. Tap “Backup & reset” > “Factory data reset
    4. Tap “Reset phone
    5. If the phone is protected by a lock screen, enter the necessary PIN / password and tap “Next
    6. Tap “Erase everything” to confirm
    NOTE: Although the BlackBerry Priv can’t be reset from the Recovery menu, you can still perform a hardware system restart if your phone crashes, freezes, is unresponsive, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via settings. To do this, press and hold “Power” for 12 seconds to perform a system restart.

    Check for OS Updates:

    NOTE: After factory resetting the phone, it’s recommended to verify if new software updates are available. To check this:
    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Go to “Settings
    3. Scroll down to “System
    4. Tap “About phone” > “System updates
    5. If necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to download any available updates
    Clear App Cache / Data:

    NOTE: In case a third party app crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or doesn’t work as intended, you might be able to fix these problems by clearing the application’s cache / data.

    WARNING! By clearing an app’s data, all your personal information stored within the app, including profiles, settings, high scores, saved games, login and credit card information etc. will be removed. To avoid losing this information, try solving the issues by clearing only the app’s cache.
    1. Go to “Settings
    2. Scroll to and tap “Apps
    3. Swipe to “All
    4. Select the desired application
    5. Tap “Clear cache
    6. If necessary, proceed to “Clear data” > “OK” (read WARNING above)
    Reboot in Safe Mode and Remove an App:

    NOTE: In case one of your third party applications causes problems and doesn’t allow you to remove it, you should be able to remove the app from Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party applications are turned off by default. To reboot the phone in Safe Mode:
    1. First, wake up the screen
    2. Next, press and hold “Power
    3. From the power management pop-up, tap and hold “Power off
    4. When prompted to reboot in Safe Mode, tap “OK
    5. Wait for the phone to restart. Once done, it should show a “Safe Mode” label in the lower-left area of the screen
    6. To remove an app, first go to “Settings
    7. Next, tap “Apps” and swipe to “All
    8. Select the desired application
    9. Tap “Uninstall” > “OK
    10. To exit safe mode, press and hold “Power” and reboot your phone as you normally would
