How-to BlackBerry Priv: Tips & Tricks to Conserve and Improve Battery Life

    Enable Battery Saving Mode:
    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Go to “Settings
    3. Tap “Battery
    4. Tap “Menu” > “Battery saver
    5. Tap the switch to enable Battery saving mode
    6. To customize when the Battery saving mode enables by itself, tap “Turn on automatically” and select a battery percentage, such as “5%” or “15%
    Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
    1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
    2. Open “Settings
    3. Tap “Display
    4. If necessary, disable automatic brightness
    5. Tap “Brightness level” and drag the brightness slider to the left
    6. To decrease timeout, tap “Sleep” and select a lower value, such as “15 seconds
    Disable Connectivity When Unused:

    NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when not in use, such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth, you can improve battery life in the long run.
    1. On the home screen, drag the “Status” bar down using two fingers
    2. Tap “Settings
    3. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
    4. Enable “Airplane mode” to disable all connectivity features
    5. To turn off Wi-Fi, tap “Wi-Fi” and set the switch to “OFF
    6. To turn off Bluetooth, select the option and tap the switch to “OFF
    7. To turn off Hotspot, tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
    8. Next, tap “Tethering & Portable hotspot” and turn off the feature
    Change GPS Settings:
    1. To turn off Location (GPS), first go to “Settings
    2. Tap “Location
    3. Tap the switch to “OFF
    4. To change GPS settings, select “Battery saving
    Forget a Wi-Fi Network:

    NOTE: By forgetting a Wi-Fi network you no longer use (especially networks using hidden SSID), you can improve battery life in the long run.
    1. Open “Settings
    2. Tap “Wi-Fi
    3. Enable Wi-Fi if necessary
    4. Tap “Menu” > “Saved networks
    5. Select the desired network
    6. Tap “Forget
    Enable Flip to Save Power:

    NOTE: By enabling gestures and allowing the device to enter sleep mode when placed face-down on a flat surface, you can improve battery life. To enable this feature:
    1. Access the “Settings” menu
    2. Tap “Advanced interactions
    3. Tap “Flip to save power” to enable the option
    Switch to 2G Connectivity:

    NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can temporarily switch to 2G connectivity to conserve battery life until the next recharge.
    1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
    2. Go to “Settings
    3. Tap “More” > “Cellular networks
    4. Tap “Preferred network type
    5. Select “2G
    Disable Background Data:
    1. Access “Settings
    2. Tap “Data usage
    3. Tap “Menu” > “Restrict background data
    4. Tap “OK” to confirm
    Change Sync Settings:

    NOTE: By setting your accounts to sync less data, you can improve battery life in the long run.
    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Access “Settings
    3. Go to “Accounts
    4. Select the desired account type
    5. Tap “Account settings
    6. Select the account you want to edit
    7. Tap “Sync frequency” and change the setting as you see fit
    Minimize Third Party App Usage:

    NOTE: Third party apps can affect battery life even when unused, as they can perform regular background tasks. As such, by removing or disabling unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Go to “Settings
    3. Tap “Apps
    4. Access “Downloaded
    5. Tap the desired application
    6. Tap “Turn Off” to disable the app
    7. Tap “Uninstall” > “Uninstall” to remove it from the phone
    Keep the OS Updated:

    NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, so it’s recommended to keep your OS up to date at all times. To check for OS updates:
    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Go to “Settings
    3. Scroll down to “About phone
    4. Tap “System updates
    5. Tap “Check for update
    6. If an update is available, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply it
