I've only been playing around with it a few times lately, but think I will
now take my laptop on vacation with me. It has worked fine, but I have
probably only been connected for up to about half an hour at a time. I
don't happen to recall download speed testing, which has varied. But,
downloading files from three different locations have been at a Mozilla
    reported speed of 14Kps, 15Kps, and 16Kps - a good three times 56k dialup.

Good question. Unfortunately, the phone connects to the computer at a
fairly high speed (220kbps or something like that?) and that's what
shows up on the popup when you make the connection, but that has no
bearing at all on how fast your internet connection is. I've heard it
is roughly the same as a 56K modem, give or take a little.
