Data cable for the Nokia 3589i for sale.

Discussion in 'alt.cellular.verizon' started by Jeremy Deats', Jun 22, 2004.

  1. I have a generic brand DKU-5 data cable designed to work with the Nokia
3589i for sale. To my knowledge this cable is not sold though Verizon
although the phone does support its use..(this is what's required for the
USB to PC connectivity you see listed under features for this phone at
    www.verizon).

It turns the phone into a PDA of sorts, that is you can upload images,
ringtones, sync up your calender, etc.. This cable also allows you to use
your Nokia phone as a modem for any USB capable PC that runs Windows
98/2000/XP. This cable is also compatible with popular third-party Nokia
phone management applications such as Oxygen II:
    http://www.oxygensoftware.com/products/opm2/

In addition to the 3589i, this cable also supports the following Nokia
    phones: 3585i, 3586i, 3587i, 3588i, 3100, 3200, 5100, 6100, 6220, 6200,
    6610, 6800, 6810, 6820, 7200, 7210, 7250, 7250i

On Java enabled phones you can also transfer Java applications and games
from your phone to your PC and back using the Oxygen II software (you can't
do this with the software that comes with it, but Oxygen II is a free
    download)

The cable is brand new in box, package includes: printed manual
(English/Japanese), CD-ROM and cable.I'm getting rid of it because I
canceled my Verizon contract and went to another provider (had to turn in my
    phone).

I'm asking $20.00 for the cable (includes items listed above, minus Oxygen
software) plus $2.50 shipping anywhere in the continental US. E-mail if
    interested.

I'd be extremely careful about claiming it works with the 5100/6100 and 3200-
series phones. The CDMA phones in those series all used the DAU-9P or DLR-3
cable - don't remember which, I believe it was the DLR-3 that I used both
with my 3285 and my 6185.

I mean, Nokia does some stupid things, but I do think they have enough sense
to not change accessories between models in the same product series.

  3. I got the list from the vendor, who is based out of Hong Kong (so who
knows), regardless it does with with the Nokia 3589i but that is the only
    model I've tested on.

Ah, you know what - Nokia lists those exact same models as working with
the DKU-5. But the other 61xx-series phones DO use different cables.

    7250i, 7210, 6820, 6800, 6610, 6585, 6560, 6225, 6200, 6100, 5140, 5100, 3589i, 3588i, 3587i, 3586i, 3585i, 3585, 3570, 3205, 3200, 3100, 2285, 2270

are the exact models that Nokia says the DKU-5 will work with.

I guess Nokia hasn't gotten any more intelligent since I stopped buying phones
    from them. :)
