How to send name, not state, in caller ID from mobile phone?

I thought I remembered seeing an announcement in my VZW bill about a
year or two ago that, when I made a call from my VZW mobile phone, my
name would start appearing on the caller ID of the phone I was calling.
I called my landline from my VZW mobile this morning, and the caller ID
name still shows up as "MARYLAND". Am I recalling this correctly, do I
need to call VZW customer service to specify the name that is linked to
my account, or is this just not a feature, period?

In general, I've noticed that other wireless callers who call me appear
as "[STATE NAME]" or "WIRELESS CALLER", the latter mostly from non-VZW
    phones.

Around here, it shows up as the city/town and state initials that is
the "home" of the exchange the phone uses. So calls from my phone show
up as "Boston MA". However, my boss' cellular caller id info shows the
name of the account holder. I don't know what system he's on, but it's
    out of SoCal.

In the NC/SC market, they used to display the city name and state,
then a few years ago they switched to showing the account holder's
name. It didn't last long, though, as we've been back to city and
state for quite some time. In short, there's probably nothing you can
do to change it. They'll either do it for everyone or do it for no
one, at least until they figure out how to charge extra each month for
    that capability.
