WARNING! When you master reset your device, all the personal data located on the phone’s internal memory will be deleted. This includes media files, ringtones, downloaded content, contacts, apps etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values. However, data located on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected.

NOTE: Before you master reset your phone, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up data, and this thread for a guide on how to restore data. You can also visit this thread for a guide on how to back up and restore data locally or via HTC Backup.

    Factory Reset via Settings:

    1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
    2. Open “Settings
    3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset
    4. Enable or disable “Back up my data” and “Automatic restore
    5. Tap “Reset phone
    6. In case your phone is password-protected, enter the necessary PIN / password to proceed
    7. Optionally, you can select whether to “Erase SD Card” too. WARNING! By enabling this option, all data located on the SD card will be deleted during the reset
    8. At the “Warning” pop-up, tap “OK” > “OK” to confirm the reset

    Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via Settings, alternatively you can try resetting the phone from the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.

    1. First, ensure the phone is turned off
    2. Press and hold “Volume down
    3. Next, press and hold “Power
    4. When the phone vibrates, release “Power
    5. Once you gain access to “hTC download mode”, release “Volume down” too
    6. From the menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “reboot to bootloader
    7. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
    8. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Boot to recovery mode
    9. Press “Power
    10. When an exclamation mark appears on the screen, press and hold “Power” and press & release “Volume Up
    11. Once you gain access to the “Android system recovery” menu, release all buttons
    12. From the Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to highlight “wipe data / factory reset
    13. Press “Power
    14. When the reset is complete, “Reboot system now” should be highlighted
    15. Press “Power” to confirm and restart your phone

    Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After a new factory reset, it’s recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:

    1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
    2. Open “Settings
    3. Scroll to and tap “Phone
    4. Tap “About” > “Software information
    5. Check if a new update is available, and if applicable follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update(s)
