I read a post from someone on howardforums saying that they had done so using a data cable for an LG 1200 phone.

you have to somehow edit the eri file using the data cable

You need to get a program called BITPIM(aeonnfluxx.com). You also need a data cable.(Best bet is radio shack) Then you use the program to extract the eri.bin file. Then you you get a hex editor like WINHEX, and edit the file. Just make sure you keep the file about the same size as when you found it. If you want a copy of the bin file that i have already edited, drop me a line.

That "banner" as you call it, is actually there to tell you what service you're in at the time. If you are roaming it switches to Extended Network.

You mean the thing that says Verizon on your main screen, right? I just found out what you guys were talking about. I thought you guys meant the "VERIZON" sign on the very beginning of the phone when you turn it on. But yes, there IS a way to take off the "Verizon" on the main screen with the wallpaper. I have NO clue how I did it to my phone, but it's possible.

You cant take the banner off without the data cable for it. You would have to edit the eri.bin file, and without a cable or BITPIM, you wont be able to edit it and overwrite the original.
