How-to Manage Wi-Fi, Data Usage and Tethering & Hotspot on the Motorola DROID Mini

    Enabling Wi-Fi:

    1. While on the home screen, tap the "Apps" icon
    2. Go to and tap "Settings"
    3. Tap the switch associated with "Wi-Fi" and bring it in the "ON" position to enable Wi-Fi

    Connecting to a Wi-Fi Network:

    1. While viewing the home screen, tap the "Apps" icon
    2. Open "Settings" and tap "Wi-Fi"
    3. Make sure that Wi-Fi is enabled, then tap "Scan"
    4. Select the desired network in the list of scanned networks and tap "Connect". (If necessary, type in the network's password and enter the network SSID)

    Network Management Tip: To remove a network, tap it in the list and then tap "Forget". For more managing options, go to the Wi-Fi screen, tap the "Menu" button and select "Manage Networks"

    Enabling and Managing Wi-Fi Hotspot:

    Wi-Fi hotspot allows you to turn your smartphone into a Wi-Fi hotspot and share its Internet access with other devices via Wi-Fi. Note: depending on your carrier contract, enabling hotspot may result in extra charges.

    1. Tap the "Apps" icon located on the home screen
    2. Go to "Settings"
    3. Tap "More" > "Tethering & Mobile Hotspot"
    4. Tap the "Mobile Hotspot" check box to enable the feature
    5. To access security settings, tap "Mobile Hotspot Settings" > "Configure Mobile Hotspot":
    • SSID: enter a unique name for your hotspot
    • Security: allows you to select the desired type of security, such as "Open", "WPA2".
    • Channel: if you are experience interference, this feature allows you to try different channels

    Tethering via USB:

    This feature gives you the option of accessing the internet on your PC via USB, using your smartphone's internet connection. Note: depending on your carrier agreement, enabling and using this feature may result in extra charges.

    1. Connect your smartphone to your PC using the USB cable
    2. On your smartphone, tap the "Apps" icon located on the home screen
    3. Go to "Settings" and make sure that Wi-Fi is disabled
    4. Tap "Tethering & Mobile Hotspot" in the "Settings" menu, and check the "USB tethering" option

    Setting Up a Data Usage Limit:

    By setting a data usage limit, you can avoid extra charges on your contract by limiting the amount of data used by your device. Once this limit is reached, your device will disable data connectivity.

    1. Tap the "Apps" icon located on the home screen
    2. Go to "Settings"
    3. Tap "Data Usage"
    4. Mark the "Set mobile data limit" check box and drag the red graph bar to the desired level
    5. Tap the "Alert me about data usage" and drag the orange graph bar to the desired level
