How-to Moto Z2 Play: Back Up & Restore App Data, Contacts and Media

    Back Up App Data:

    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Launch “Settings” and scroll to “Personal
    3. Tap “Backup & reset
    4. Enable “Back up my data
    5. Enable “Automatic restore” to allow app data, settings, and Wi-Fi passwords to be restored automatically when signing in with the Google backup account or when reinstalling backed up applications

    Back Up Contacts:

    1. Open “Settings
    2. Scroll to and tap “Accounts
    3. Select an account type
    4. Tap the account you want to use for contact backup
    5. Enable “Contacts” if necessary
    6. Tap “Menu” > “Sync Now

    NOTE: Contacts backed up using this method can be automatically restored the next time you sign in with your Google backup account.

    Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

    1. Connect the Moto device to your computer via USB
    2. Enable “Media device” / “File Transfer” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
    3. Open the File Explorer on the computer
    4. Locate and copy the desired media files on the phone storage
    5. Transfer the files in the desired backup location on the computer
    6. After the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord

    Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:

    1. Connect the Moto device to your computer via USB
    2. Enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” at the prompt or from the “Notification” shade
    3. Launch the File Explorer on the computer and locate the media file backups
    4. Copy and transfer the media backups to the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” directory or the folder(s) of origin
    5. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB port
