How-to Motorola DROID MAXX 2: Factory Reset & Check for OS Updates

    WARNING! When factory resetting your phone, all personal data stored on the internal memory will be removed. This includes apps, contacts, downloaded content, ringtones and so on. Additionally, all settings will be restored to factory values.

    NOTE: Before you reset the device, you can visit this thread for instructions on how you can back up and restore data on the MAXX 2.

    Factory Reset via Settings:
    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Launch “Settings
    3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset
    4. Tap “Factory data reset
    5. In case your phone is lock screen-protected, enter the necessary PIN, password or pattern to proceed
    6. Tap “Reset phone” to confirm
    Factory Reset via Recovery:

    NOTE: In case you are unable to reset the phone using the method above, you can try applying the reset via Recovery by following the steps below:
    1. Turn off the device
    2. Press & hold “Volume Down
    3. Press and hold “Power” while the volume key is held
    4. When the first menu appears, release all hardware buttons
    5. In the menu press “Volume down” to highlight “Recovery mode
    6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
    7. At the “No command” screen, press and hold “Power”, then press “Volume Up
    8. Once the phone enters Recovery menu, release all buttons
    9. In the Recovery menu press “Volume down” repeatedly to highlight “wipe data / factory reset
    10. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
    11. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Userdata only” or “Userdata + personalized content
    12. Press “Power
    13. After the phone resets, “Reboot system now” should be highlighted
    14. Press “Power” and wait for the handset to restart
    Check for Software Updates:

    NOTE: Once you finish resetting the phone you should check if new software updates are available. To do so:
    1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
    2. Open “Settings” and scroll to “System
    3. Tap “About phone
    4. Tap “System updates” and assuming that an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to download and apply it
