How-to Motorola Moto E5 Play: Factory Reset via Settings or Android Recovery

    WARNING! When you factory reset your phone, all the personal data stored on the device will be deleted, including media files, apps, downloaded content, contacts etc. Additionally, all settings will be restored to factory values, however, data located on the SD and SIM cards won’t be affected.

    NOTE: You can visit this thread for a guide on how to back up and restore app data, contacts, and media on the device.

    Factory Reset via Settings:

    1. Launch “Settings
    2. Access “Backup & reset
    3. If your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN/password
    4. Tap “Reset phone” and follow the on-screen prompts

    Factory Reset via Recovery:

    1. Turn the phone off if necessary
    2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
    3. From the “Boot Mode Selection” menu release the buttons
    4. Press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Recovery
    5. Press “Volume Up” to select the highlighted option
    6. At the “No Command” screen, press and release “Power” and “Volume Up” for several times until you gain access to Recovery
    7. Once in Android Recovery, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “Wipe data/factory reset
    8. Press “Power
    9. Highlight “Userdata only” or “Userdata + personalized content
    10. Press “Power
    11. After the process completes, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” again to confirm
