How-to Motorola Moto Z3: Clear App Cache/Data; Wipe the Cache Partition; Reboot to Safe Mode

    Clear App Cache/Data:

    NOTE: If one of your applications crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try to fix these issues by clearing the app cache or data.

    WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including login information, user profiles, save files, custom settings etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

    1. Open “Settings
    2. Access “Apps
    3. Select “All apps” and tap the desired application
    4. Tap “Storage” > “Clear cache
    5. If clearing the app’s cache didn’t solve the problems, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (check the warning above)

    Wipe the Cache Partition:

    NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the phone’s cache partition instead. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data from the device.

    1. Turn the phone off if needed
    2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
    3. Release the keys at the “Boot Mode Selection” screen
    4. Press “Volume down” to navigate the menu and highlight “Recovery
    5. Press “Volume Up” to select the option
    6. At the “No Command” screen, press “Power” and “Volume Up” repeatedly
    7. Once you access Android Recovery, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Wipe cache partition
    8. Press “Power” to select the option
    9. Once done, ensure “Reboot system now” is highlighted and press “Power

    NOTE: If clearing the phone’s cache partition didn’t help, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone instead.

    Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

    NOTE: If one of your third-party apps prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app while in Safe Mode where all third-party apps are disabled by default. To reboot to Safe Mode:

    1. Press and hold “Power
    2. In the power management pop-up, tap and hold “Power off
    3. At the “Reboot to Safe Mode” prompt tap “OK”. Once done, a “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible on the home screen
    4. To remove an app, first open “Settings
    5. Next go to “Apps” and switch to “All apps” if necessary
    6. Select the desired app
    7. Tap “Uninstall” > “OK
    8. To exit Safe Mode, reboot the phone normally
