I'm a Verizon customer since '98, but I've got to hand it to Nextel for
their direct connect commercials. "Nextel. Done." People getting married
and the couple and priest are all D/C'ing eachother ... a board room
w/people at a staff meeting, all of them w/their Nextel's talking instantly
    back and forth.

Definitely a smack back at Verizon.

What I noticed about those commercials was how stupid they were. If they
continue to target the unintelligent crowds they will do well for
    themselves.

Verizon seems to be on the Stupid Sells bandwagon. Look at their picture
messaging commercials. Good god man, it's pathetic. Apparently the only
legitimate use of picture messaging is to take a picture of a shit and send
it to a friend or piss in a milk jug and send it to the person drinking it.

There are very few truly good, intelligent, entertaining commercials on TV...

intelligent and entertaining are seldom contained in the same sentence.
a sad but true fact with consumer america. however i do agree that these
    comercials suck.

I find the recent nextel ads very stupid, to say the least. particularly,
since they have nationwide direct connect available, and their ads show
people using them to talk to people standing/sitting right next to them!!!
geesh!!!!! get real!! by now, most people got the idea that they work as a
'walkie-talkie', so why not show what they're really capable of...of course
capable when the phones actually work for once.

I saw one over the weekend. Two people having a power lunch in a
restaurant, and right in each other's face, sending rapid fire PTT's at
each other, negotiating the salary on a job offer.

A great marketing tactic, if only it were true. These people were
talking before the characteristic PTT "beep" even finished. If they
weren't face to face, half the conversation would've been silence on the
other end because they couldn't hear other's salary numbers. :)

This is true, I just thought the "Nextel. Done." was a good marketing thing.

I like the Aflack & some of the Geico commercials that are on now (esp. the
Geico one w/the driving hunting dog).
