Is there a business reason why Verizon has absolutely no presence in Oklahoma? I have an Arizona phone here in Oklahoma as part of a family plan and can only get extended network. Did Oklahoma do something to make Verizon mad???

At this time, the FCC agreements that are in place for Oklahoma may not permit Verizon to put up their own towers, so Verizon customers have to roam on other providers' networks, hence "extended network". Try dialing *228 (send) then choose option 2. That should update your phone, which you usually use in Arizona, to the towers in Oklahoma. Updating your phone regularly will ensure that you always have access to the latest roaming agreements.

Unfortunately, since I can't get to a Verizon network, I can't do the *228 or update anything. I connect to US Cellular instead of Verizon. You don't by any chance know if this FCC agreement has an end date do you?

All you need to do is dial *228, it doesn't matter where you are, your Verizon phone service will automatically do the rest for you. Now, if you are not currently a Verizon Wireless customer, that is another issue altogether.

I am a current Verizon customer. But when I dial *228, US Cellular answers. They say I've reached automatic roaming update service, but then it says the update cannot be completed. I am unable to reach Verizon for anything at all.

Dial 800-922-0204 for further instructions. There may be a "push" that they can do to help you out.

depends on were you are at.

*611 should forward you to VZW customer service (but it is possible that it will only go to US Cellular)

VZW should be getting Tulsa Oklahoma on line in a few months
If you are in Oklahoma City then you will have to wait a few years until Verizon gets full control of the Vista PCS partnership.

If in Tulsa dail *22807 to pickup VZW in Enid dail *22804 Ada *22804

Current VZW networks on line are in Miami, Ardmore, Lawton, and Duncan

I should add that Verizon Wireless had zero licenses for any part of the state of Oklahoma until 2002.

Unless VZW buys someone out you probably won't see them anytime soon in Western Oklahoma, nor east central Oklahoma.

Frankly not being on Verizon in Oklahoma is a good thing. I have ALWAYS had better call clarity and signal on extended network in Oklahoma (Sprint and US Cellular) Missouri (Sprint) and Kansas (Sprint and Alltel) than I have ever received on the Verizon home network, including at home in California or traveling (Michigan, Pennsylvania, et cetera).

Given Verizon's ability to keep a connection, the only good thing I can say is that they have a better network than Cingular in California. Which doesn't really mean much.

Ohh, yeah, the *228 thing? Since Verizon doesn't really have roaming, it doesn't really do anything in Oklahoma.

I know this thread is years old, but does anyone know when or if Verizon is going to come to Oklahoma?

I have a Verizon phone from NY and although it works very well from a signal strength and clarity and not dropping calls while on the extended network in OK, the features that I need are not supported. Like text messages with attachments, and also my phone goes to voicemail after 2 rings, but when I am in TX or NY the ringcount is 6.
