    Performing a Soft Reset

If your smartphone is unresponsive, has an app that is not working properly and is running slower than usual, you should try restarting it and see if that will solve the issue.
    1. If the display is turned off, turn it back on.
    2. Unlock the display.
    3. Press and hold the Power button.
    4. Tap Restart.
    5. If you’re asked to confirm -> tap Restart.

Note: If your HTC Droid DNA is unresponsive when you press the buttons or touch the screen, don’t worry because you can still restart it. To do that, you need to press and hold its Power button for a minimum of 10 seconds. After that, your smartphone should restart.
    Performing a Hard Reset

You should perform a hard reset (also known as master reset or factory reset) if your device has a persistent unsolvable problem or if you’re about to give the phone to somebody else.

Keep in mind that the hard reset will delete all your customized settings and data permanently, and will also delete any 3rd party applications that you've downloaded and installed to the phone, so before performing the master reset, you should make sure you back up any files and data that you want to keep.

To back up your data, you can take a look at the back up tutorial for the HTC Droid DNA that we talked about already.

    To perform the hard reset:
    1. Open the Notifications panel.
    2. Tap Settings.
    3. Go to Backup & reset.
    4. Tap Reset phone.
    5. If you’re certain that you want to erase all the data and media from your Droid DNA, tap Erase all data.
    6. Next, tap Reset phone.
    7. Tap Erase everything.

Performing a Hard Reset via Hardware Buttons

If you can’t even turn the HTC Droid DNA on to make the software hard reset, then you have another option to reset your device -> which is to it using the hardware buttons on the Droid DNA.
    1. Press and hold the Volume Down button.
    2. Press and hold the Power button.
    3. You should now wait to see the three Android images on the screen.
    4. Once you see the images, release the Volume down and Power buttons.
    5. To select FACTORY RESET -> press the Volume Down button.
    6. Finally, press the Power button to perform the factory reset.

Recover what? If you didn't back something up before performing a data reset then it is gone.
