How-to Pixel 2 XL: Back Up & Restore App Data, Media, and Contacts

    Back Up & Restore App Data:

    1. Open “Settings
    2. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset
    3. Enable “Back up my data” to back up app data, settings, and passwords to your backup account
    4. Enable “Automatic restore” to allow app data, settings, and passwords to be automatically restored the next time you sign in with the backup account or when reinstalling apps

    Back Up and Restore Contacts:

    1. Launch “Settings
    2. Access “Accounts
    3. Select an account type
    4. Select an account and ensure “Contacts” is checked
    5. Tap “Menu” > “Sync Now

    NOTE: Contacts can be restored automatically when you sign in with the backup account or by syncing them manually with the phone.

    Back Up Media Files on the PC:

    1. Connect the Pixel 2 XL to the computer via USB
    2. Enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” on the phone, when prompted or from the Notification area
    3. Launch the File Explorer on the computer
    4. Locate the media files on the phone storage
    5. Copy and transfer the files to the desired backup location on the computer
    6. Once the process completes you safely disconnect the device from the USB port

    Restore Media Files from a PC:

    1. Connect the Pixel device to the computer via USB
    2. Enable “Media device” / “File Transfer” when prompted or from the Notification area
    3. Launch the File Explorer on the computer
    4. Locate the media file backups on the PC storage
    5. Copy and transfer the files to the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” folder
    6. Once done, safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
