Roam or Not to Roam? How do I know? Confusing?

I have recently went from a Sony Ericson T61 phone to a Samsung A310
to a LG VX4400B. In my house, I could use the T61 with no "Roam"
showing on my screen. Extended Network showed and was used.

I then upgraded to the Samsung A310. It was nice, but not color. It
would also not show Roam at my house. "Extended Network" was used and
shown. Roam is a valid listing, but not shown at the house.

Now I upgraded to the LG VX4400B and when calling from my home, it
shows Extended Network while dialing the number. I then stick the
phone up to the ear to talk. While talking I noticed the "Roam"
showing with the time moving. Why would this be the case?

Also how do I know if I am roaming if the "Extended Network" is shown
while dialing and ringing, but then "Roam" is shown while talking.
Seems a little fishy to me....

    Thanks,

    Rog

Ignore the "Roam" on the call timer.

    It's a glitch/bug/feature on the 4400...any non-VZW network call will
show up with the word "Roam" next to the call timer, even if the call
    is an Extended Network call.

I don't know if this has been fixed in later 4400 versions. You
probably have v10 with the B, so it doesn't sound like it.

    Hi Rog,

This is a dilemma I struggled with this past December. If you have the
America's Choice network, roaming on the VX4400(B) works like this. If the
Roaming indicator (looks like a triangle) is displayed, but flashing you are
on the Extend Network and should not be charged roaming (despite the call
timer). If the Roaming indicator is not blinking, you WILL be charged
roaming. So before you make a call, check your roaming indicator. Hope
    this helps!

Bring the phone in for a software update. It is a known bug. After
the upgrade, it will change to "Time" when you talk.

Just pay attention to the line that says "Verizon Wireless / Extended
Area / Roam" and you will be fine. The 4400 triangle indicator is
    unreliable.

Thanks for the advice. I just don't understand why they make it so
difficult for us to know. Blinking Triangle or solid????? What's up
with that. Why not tell us as were dialing that this call will be in
"ROAM" instead of trying to rely on the "Blinking or Not Blinking
Triangle" Or give us some other Icon that reads Roam. The T61 had a
little "r" for Extended Network and a "R" for Roaming. With all the
technology today it seems that this is a No brainer.

I'm pretty sure that even the latest 4400 software update (v10, which
I have) doesn't fix this. But...I haven't been in an Extended Network
area and watched this for a long time.
