How-to Samsung Galaxy J1: Back Up Data

    Back Up App Data:

    1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
    2. Launch “Settings
    3. Swipe to “User and Backup
    4. Tap “Backup and reset
    5. You need to be signed in with a Google account to proceed. If necessary, tap “Backup account” > “Add account
    6. Enable “Back up my data” and “Backup account

    Back Up Contacts on a Google or Samsung Account:

    1. Launch “Contacts
    2. Tap “Menu” > “Merge accounts
    3. Select “Google” or “Samsung account
    4. If necessary, sign in with your account and tap “OK

    Back Up Contacts on the SD Card:

    1. Ensure the SD card is installed on your phone
    2. Open the apps drawer and launch “Settings
    3. Swipe to “Applications
    4. Tap “Contacts” > “Contacts to display” > “All Contacts
    5. Tap “Import / Export” > “Export to SD card” (make sure you remember the file name for future use)
    6. Tap “OK

    Back Up Media Files

    On the SD Card:

    1. Tap “Apps
    2. Open “My Files
    3. Swipe to “Local storage” > “Device storage
    4. Tap “Menu” > “Select
    5. Locate and check the boxes next to the files / folders you want to back up
    6. Tap “Menu” > “Copy” > “SD Card
    7. Navigate to the desired backup location and tap “Paste here

    On a Windows Computer:

    1. Establish a USB connection between the Galaxy J1 and computer
    2. Swipe the “Status” bar down and tap “Connected as a media device
    3. Enable “Media device (MTP)
    4. From the AutoPlay window on the computer, click “Open device to view files
    5. Locate the desired media files and copy them
    6. Transfer the files on your PC storage in a backup location of choice
    7. Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage from the system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the computer

    On a Mac:

    NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac

    1. Open the Internet browser on the Mac
    2. Visit Kies Support and click “Kies 3 for Mac
    3. Once downloaded, run the Kies client and follow the on-screen instructions to install it on the Mac
    4. Connect the Galaxy J1 to your Mac via USB
    5. Swipe the “Status” bar down if necessary, and enable “Media Device (MTP)
    6. Launch Kies on the computer and click the “Back up / restore” tab
    7. Click the “Backup” tab and mark the check boxes next to “Music” and “Photo
    8. Click “Backup
    9. After the transfer is complete, drag the phone’s virtual drive in the trash can and safely disconnect the USB cable
