How-to Samsung Galaxy J1: Restore App Data

    NOTE: To learn how you can back up data on the Galaxy J1, you can visit this thread.

    Restore App Data:

    1. Sign in with the Google / Samsung account used for the initial backup
    2. Access “Settings
    3. Swipe to “User and Backup
    4. Tap “Accounts” and select “Samsung” or “Google
    5. Tap the “email address” at the top of the screen
    6. Tap “Sync all” and press “Back” two times
    7. In the “User and Backup” menu, tap “Backup and reset
    8. Check / uncheck the “Back up my data” and “Automatic restore” boxes

    Restore Contacts from a Google or Samsung Account:

    1. Sign in with your Samsung or Google account
    2. Access “Settings
    3. Swipe to “User and Backup” and tap “Accounts
    4. Select “Google” or “Samsung
    5. Tap your “email address” at the top of the screen
    6. Enable “Sync Contacts” and tap “Sync now

    Restore Contacts from the SD Card:

    1. Go to “Settings
    2. Tap “Contacts” under “Applications
    3. Tap “Contacts to display” > “All contacts
    4. Tap “Import / Export
    5. Select “Import from SD card
    6. Browse for and select the backup file you want to restore
    7. Tap “OK” to confirm

    Restore Media Files

    From the SD Card:

    1. Open “My Files
    2. Tap “All files” > “SD card
    3. Tap “Menu” > “Select
    4. Check the boxes associated with the media files you want to restore
    5. Tap “Menu” > “Move
    6. Tap “Device storage
    7. Tap “Move here” or tap “Create folder” or the folder’s name to select a different location

    From a Windows Computer:

    1. Connect the Galaxy J1 to your computer via USB
    2. Drag the “Status” bar down
    3. Tap “Connected as a media device” and enable “Media sync (MTP)
    4. In the AutoPlay window on the computer click “Open device to view files
    5. Navigate to where you want to restore the media files
    6. Launch a second Explorer window and locate the files backed up files on the computer
    7. Transfer the files from the PC back to the phone storage
    8. After the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage from the system tray and safely disconnect it from the computer

    From a Mac Computer:

    1. Establish a USB connection between the Galaxy J1 and Mac
    2. If necessary, enable “Media Sync (MTP)
    3. Open Kies on the Mac and click the “Back up / restore” tab
    4. Access the “Restore” tab and click the check box next to “Music”, “Photo” and other types of media files
    5. In Kies, click “Restore” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process
