How-to Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge: Back Up App Data, Contacts, and Media

    Back Up App Data:

    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Launch “Settings
    3. Scroll to and tap “Cloud and accounts
    4. Tap “Backup & restore
    5. Enable “Back up my data” to back up app data, Wi-Fi passwords, and settings to your Google account
    6. Enable “Automatic restore” to allow app data to be automatically restored when reinstalling apps or signing in with your backup account

    Back Up Contacts:

    1. Open “Settings
    2. Tap “Cloud and accounts
    3. Access “Accounts
    4. Select the account you want to use for syncing
    5. Tap “Menu” > “Sync Now

    Back Up Contacts to the SD Card:

    1. Open “Contacts
    2. Tap “Menu” > “Settings
    3. If necessary, tap “Contacts to display” and select “All contacts
    4. Tap “Import/Export contacts
    5. Tap “Export to SD card” > “OK” to confirm

    Back Up Media Files on the Phone Storage:

    1. Launch “My Files
    2. Tap “Internal storage
    3. Tap “Menu” > “Share
    4. Select the content you want to back up
    5. Tap “Share” to confirm

    Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

    1. Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
    2. Enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” at the prompt or from the “Notification” area
    3. Open the File Explorer on the computer
    4. Locate the media files on the phone storage
    5. Copy and transfer the files in the desired backup location on the computer
    6. After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB port

    Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

    NOTE: If Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac, you can skip the first 3 steps below:

    1. Open the Internet browser on the Mac
    2. Visit http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/kies
    3. Click “Download for Mac” and follow the on-screen steps to install Kies
    4. Connect the Samsung phone to your Mac via USB and enable “File Transfer” / “Media device
    5. Launch Kies on the Mac and go to “Back up / Restore
    6. Access the “Backup” tab
    7. Tick the boxes associated with “Photos”, “Music” and other types of media files you want to back up
    8. Click “Backup” to start the process
    9. After the backup is complete, eject the phone storage by dragging its virtual drive from the desktop and dropping it into the “Trash can
    10. Safely disconnect the phone from the USB port
