How-to Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge: Clear App Cache/Data; Wipe Cache Partition; Reboot to Safe Mode

    Clear App Cache/Data:

    NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the app’s cache/data.

    WARNING! Clearing an app’s data will result in the deletion of all your personal data stored within the app, including credit card and login information, settings, high scores, user profiles etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

    1. Open “Settings
    2. Scroll to and tap “Applications
    3. Select the desired app
    4. Go to “Storage” and tap “Clear cache
    5. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” to confirm

    Clear the Cache Partition:

    NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting the device, alternatively you can try fixing these problems by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can yield results similar to a factory reset without losing any personal data on the internal storage.

    1. Make sure the phone is powered Off
    2. Next, press and hold “Home” and “Volume UP” at the same time, then immediately press and hold “Power” as well
    3. At the device logo screen, release “Power
    4. At the Android screen, release “Home” and “Volume Up” as well
    5. Once in the Android Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “wipe cache partition
    6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
    7. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes” and press “Power
    8. After the cache partition is cleared, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” to confirm

    NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t solve the issues, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the device instead.

    Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

    NOTE: In case you have installed a third party application that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled by default.

    1. Turn the phone Off
    2. Press and hold “Power
    3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
    4. Wait for the phone to reboot and release the volume button. NOTE: a “Safe Mode” watermark should be shown in the lower area of the home screen
    5. To remove an app, first open “Settings
    6. Next go to “Applications” and select the desired app
    7. Tap “Uninstall” two times to confirm
    8. To exit Safe Mode, simply reboot your phone as you would do normally by pressing and holding “Power
