How-to Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge: Soft/Hard Reset Phone; Reset Network Settings

    NOTE: Before you factory reset your phone, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to back up data, and this thread for instructions on how to restore data.

    Soft Reset via Hardware Buttons:

    NOTE: A soft reset simulates battery removal, and this can be useful if your phone is frozen, unresponsive etc.

    1. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” simultaneously
    2. Keep both keys pressed and wait for the phone to reboot

    Hard Reset

    NOTE: By hard resetting your device, all your data located on the phone’s internal memory will be deleted, including contacts, media files, downloaded content, ringtones, apps etc. Additionally, all settings will be restored to factory values.

    Hard Reset via Settings:

    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Go to “Settings
    3. Access “Cloud and accounts
    4. Tap “Backup and restore
    5. Optionally, enable or disable “Restore” and “Back up my data
    6. Return to “Settings” and access “General Management
    7. Tap “Reset” > “Factory data reset
    8. Tap “Reset device
    9. Assuming your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your password/PIN and tap “Continue” to proceed
    10. Tap “Delete all” to confirm

    Hard Reset via Recovery:

    NOTE: If your phone is frozen, unresponsive, or otherwise it prevents you from resetting it via Settings, alternatively you can reset the phone from the System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses, as follows:

    1. Make sure the phone is powered Off
    2. Press and hold “Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time, then tap and hold “Power” too
    3. When the “Android” logo appears, release all buttons and wait upwards to 1 minute to gain access to Android Recovery
    4. Once in Android Recovery, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “wipe data / factory reset
    5. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
    6. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes – delete all user data” and press “Power” to confirm
    7. After the phone resets, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power

    Reset Network Settings:

    NOTE: By resetting network settings, all your connection data including existing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networks will be deleted. Additionally, network selection mode, background data, and data restrictive settings will be restored to factory values.

    1. Open “Settings
    2. Go to “General management
    3. Tap “Reset” > “Reset network settings
    4. Tap “Reset settings
    5. If necessary, enter your PIN / password to proceed
    6. Tap “Reset settings” to confirm
