How-to Samsung Galaxy Note 8: Restore Contacts and Media Files

    NOTE: You can visit this thread for a guide on how to back up data on the Samsung device.

    Restore Contacts from an SD Card Backup:

    1. Open “Contacts
    2. Tap “Menu
    3. Go to “Settings
    4. If necessary, tap “Contacts to display” > “All contacts
    5. Select “Import/Export contacts
    6. Tap “Import from SD Card” > “OK” to confirm

    Restore Media Files from SD Storage:

    1. Open the “Samsung” folder
    2. Launch “My Files
    3. Tap “SD Card” > “Menu” > “Edit
    4. Navigate to and tick the check boxes associated with the media files you want to restore
    5. Tap “Menu” > “Move
    6. Tap “Internal storage” > “Move here
    7. Alternatively, tap “Create folder” or the folder’s name to move the files to a different location
    8. Tap “Move here

    Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:

    1. Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
    2. Enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
    3. Open the File Explorer on the computer
    4. Locate and copy the media file backups on the computer
    5. Transfer the files on the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” directory
    6. After the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB port

    Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:

    1. Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
    2. Enable “Media device” / “File Transfer” at the prompt or from the “Notification” area
    3. Open Kies on the Mac
    4. Go to the “Back up / restore” tab
    5. Access the “Restore” tab
    6. Tick the boxes associated with “Music”, “Photos” and other media files you want to restore
    7. Click “Restore” and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process
    8. Once the restore is done, drag the phone’s virtual drive and drop it over the “Trash can” to eject it
    9. Safely disconnect the phone from the USB port
