How-to Samsung Galaxy Note 9: Back Up App Data, Contacts, and Media Files

    Back Up App Data:

    1. Open “Settings
    2. Go to “Cloud and account
    3. Tap “Backup & Restore
    4. Enable “Back up my data” to back up settings, Wi-Fi passwords and app data to your backup account
    5. Enable “Automatic Restore” to allow app data, settings, and passwords to be restored automatically when reinstalling apps or signing in with the backup account

    Back Up Contacts:

    1. Launch “Contacts
    2. Go to “Cloud and account” > “Accounts
    3. Select an account type and the desired account
    4. Ensure “Contacts” is checked
    5. Tap “Menu” > “Sync Now

    Back Up Contacts to SD Storage:

    1. Open “Contacts
    2. Tap “Menu
    3. Go to “Settings
    4. If necessary, switch to “All contacts
    5. Access “Import/Export
    6. Tap “Export to SD” and press “OK

    Back Up Media Files to Phone Storage:

    1. Open “My Files
    2. Go to “Internal storage
    3. Tap “Menu” > “Share
    4. Select the desired contacts and tap “Share
    5. Select a location for the backup

    Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

    1. Connect the Android device to the PC via USB
    2. On the phone, enable “File Transfer” / ‘Media device” at the prompt or from the Notification area
    3. Open the File Explorer on the computer
    4. Locate the media files on the phone
    5. Copy the files and paste them to the desired backup location on the computer
    6. Once done, eject the phone storage and safely disconnect the device from the USB port

    Back Up Media Files on a Mac:

    NOTE: You can skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac.

    1. Open the Internet browser on the Mac
    2. Head down to https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/kies
    3. Click “Download for Mac” and install Kies
    4. Establish a USB connection between the phone and Mac
    5. On the phone, enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” when prompted or from the Notification area
    6. Open Kies on the Mac and access “Back up / Restore
    7. Go to “Backup
    8. Tick the boxes associated with the media files you want to back up
    9. When ready, tap “Backup
    10. Once done, eject the phone storage by dragging the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and dropping it over the Trash can
    11. You can safely disconnect the device from the USB port
