How-to Samsung Galaxy S7: Back Up and Restore Personal Data

    Back Up App Data:
    1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
    2. Open “Settings
    3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset
    4. Turn on “Back up my data” to back up settings, Wi-Fi passwords, and app / account data to your Google account
    5. Turn on “Automatic restore

    NOTE: Application data, settings, and Wi-Fi passwords will be automatically restored upon the next time you sign in with your Google account.

    Back Up Contacts on a Samsung / Google Account:
    1. Launch “Contacts
    2. Tap “More” > “Settings
    3. To save any contacts that are not already saved to your account, tap “Move device contacts to
    4. Go back to “Settings” and tap “Accounts
    5. Select the desired account
    6. Tap “More” > “Sync now

    NOTE: Contacts backed up using the method above will be restored automatically the next time you sign in with your Google or Samsung account used for the backup.

    Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:
    1. Launch the Internet explorer on the computer
    2. Head down to Samsung Smart Switch™
    3. Click to download “Samsung Smart Switch for PC
    4. Install the app on your PC
    5. Once done, connect the Galaxy S7 to your PC via USB
    6. Swipe the “Status” bar down, tap “Connected as a media device” and, if necessary, turn on “Media device (MTP)
    7. If necessary, allow the computer to install any necessary drivers
    8. When ready, launch “Smart Switch” on the computer
    9. Next, launch the File Explorer and locate the desired media files on your phone
    10. Drag the files and drop them in the desired location on the computer
    11. After the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage from the system tray and disconnect the device from the USB cord

    Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:
    1. Follow the first 8 steps above
    2. Launch the File Explorer on the computer
    3. Navigate to the “Card” or “Phone” folder on your smartphone
    4. Launch a second File Explorer window
    5. Locate the media files backed up on your computer
    6. Drag the files and drop them in the “Card” or “Phone” directory, preferably in the “Media” folder
    7. After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and disconnect the phone from the USB

    Back Up Media Files on a Mac:
    1. Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
    2. Visit Kies Support
    3. Click “Kies 3 for Mac” and install the app on your Mac
    4. Next, connect the Samsung Galaxy S7 to your Mac via USB
    5. Swipe the “Status” bar down, and if necessary, enable “Media device (MTP)
    6. Open Kies on the Mac and click the “Back up / restore” tab
    7. Access the “Backup” tab and check the boxes next to “Music”, “Photos”, and other media file types you want to back up
    8. Click “Backup
    9. After the transfer is complete, eject the phone’s virtual drive by dragging it from the desktop and dropping it in the “trash can
    10. Safely disconnect the phone from the USB

    Restore Media Files from a Mac:
    1. Follow the first 6 steps above
    2. Then, access the “Restore” tab
    3. Check the “Music” and “Photos” boxes (and those associated with other media file types you may want to restore)
    4. Click “Restore
    5. If necessary, follow the on-screen steps to complete the process
    6. Once done, eject the phone storage by dragging the virtual drive into the “trash can”, and safely disconnect the device from the USB port

    To backup android phone photos, you can try Google Drive Backup, Google photos, Facebook Sync. If you want to backup other kind of files, you can use an android file manager to help.
