How-to Samsung Galaxy S8+: Restore Contacts and Media

    NOTE: For instructions on how to back up data on the Samsung Galaxy S8+, visit this thread.

    Restore Contacts from SD Card:

    1. Open “Contacts
    2. Tap “Menu” > “Settings
    3. If necessary, tap “Contacts to display” and switch to “All contacts
    4. Tap “Import / Export contacts” > “Import from SD card
    5. Press “OK” to confirm

    Restore Media Files from an SD Card:

    1. Access the “Samsung” folder
    2. Open “My Files
    3. Go to “SD Card
    4. Tap “Menu” > “Edit
    5. Navigate to and tick the check boxes associated with the media files you want to restore
    6. Tap “Menu” > “Move” > “Internal storage
    7. Tap “Move here”, or tap “Create folder” or the folder’s name to restore the files to a different location

    Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:

    1. Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
    2. Enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
    3. Open the File Explorer on the computer and locate the media backup files on the PC storage
    4. Copy and transfer the files back on the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” folder or the directories they originate from
    5. After the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB port

    Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:

    1. Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
    2. Enable “Media device” / “File Transfer” at the prompt or from the “Notification” area
    3. Launch Kies on the Mac and go to the “Back up / Restore” tab
    4. Access the “Restore” tab
    5. Tick the boxes next to “Music”, “Photos” and other media file types you want to restore
    6. Click “Restore” to begin the process
    7. Once done, eject the phone storage by dragging the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and dropping it into the “Trash can
    8. Safely disconnect the phone from the USB port
