How-to Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus: Back Up App Data, Contacts, and Media Files

    Back Up App Data:

    1. Launch “Settings
    2. Go to “Cloud and accounts
    3. Tap “Backup & restore
    4. Enable “Back up my data” to back up app data, settings, and passwords to your backup account
    5. Enable “Automatic restore” to allow app data, settings, and passwords when reinstalling apps or logging in with the backup account

    Back Up Contacts:

    1. Open “Settings
    2. Access “Cloud and accounts
    3. Go to “Accounts
    4. Select the account you want to use for syncing the contacts
    5. Tap “Menu” > “Sync Now

    Back Up Contacts to SD Storage:

    1. Launch “Contacts
    2. Tap “Menu
    3. Go to “Settings
    4. If necessary, switch to “All contacts
    5. Tap “Import/Export contacts
    6. Tap “Export to SD” > “OK

    Back Up Media Files to the Phone Storage:

    1. Open “My Files
    2. Access “Internal storage
    3. Tap “Menu” > “Share
    4. Tap the contact you want to use for the back up
    5. Tap “Share” one more time and select a backup location

    Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

    1. Connect the Samsung phone to the PC via USB
    2. On the phone, enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” when prompted or from the Notification area
    3. Open the File Explorer on the computer
    4. Locate the media files on the phone
    5. Copy and transfer the files to the desired backup location on the PC
    6. Once the transfer completes, you can safely disconnect the phone from the USB port

    Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

    NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps below if Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac.

    1. Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
    2. Visit https://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/kies
    3. Click “Download for Mac” and follow the on-screen steps to install the app on the Mac
    4. Connect the Android phone to the Mac via USB
    5. On the phone, enable “Media device” / “File Transfer” when prompted or from the Notification area
    6. Open Kies on the Mac and access “Back up / restore
    7. Go to the “Backup” tab
    8. Tick the boxes linked with “Photos”, “Music” and other media file types you want to back up
    9. Click “Backup” to start the process
    10. Once done, drag the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and drop it into the trash can to eject it
    11. You can safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
