Is there any way to get rid of that woman who bores callers leaving
voicemail with those instructions... "when are through, hang up or press
    blah blah blah...

    I HATE HER!

I do, too. Unfortunately, although you can shorten the message by removing
the "to leave a callback number" part, they don't provide a way to get rid
of it completely. They really should.

Okay, how can I get rid of the "to leave a callback number" part?

  5. Go into personal options, admin options, and there is a promo to turn
off the callback number feature (at least in SID 40)....

When leaving a VM on someone's Verizon phone, to completely bypass their
greeting and the annoying ladys' menu options, press '*'. You will
immediately hear the 'beep' to start recording.

Thanks Bill. When I get to the "Prompt Level" my choices are "rapid prompts"
or "standard prompts." I'm assuming rapid means less options...?

I can't find any such option in my admin options :-(

  9. Bill Radio

    Bill Radio Guest

    Rapid prompts you'll hear:
    Listen, 1
    Message, 2
    Personal Options, 3

    Instead of:
To Listen to your messages Press 1
To send a Message to another phone, Press 2
To Change your Personla Options Press 3, etc.

After having used Rapid, I switched back to Standard because listening
in the mobile environment means you have noise and interruptions that
preevent you from accurately hearing the options.

Oh, so what I did was change what I hear when I call my voicemail. I did not
change what a caller hears or shut that woman up who rattles off all those
    options to callers?

It's "Callback number prompt". Maybe it's not available in all markets?

Me either. (Also, here in Atlanta there is no way to bypass the greeting
before it finishes, except to send a numeric page by pressing 5.)

I'm going to check with CS and see if they can have tech support or a
switch tech turn it off...right now I have an approx. 35 second greeting,
    which is crazy. :(

For some reason this shows on Usenet, but not on Phonescoop, so here is
what works in our market again:

    - Access Voice Mail
    - Personal Options
    - Administrative Options
    - Caller Prompting
    - Turn Cut-Through Paging Off

I have an AT&T phone too and it sounds like a regular answering machine when
people leave voicemail. Just my voice then a beep. Love it! :)

PS - Cingular was the same way.

I'm pretty sure the long voice prompts are just a trick to get everyone to
go over 1 minute when they leave a message. It's a conspiracy.

My VZW voicemail works like this now.
Just my voice telling them to leave a message.

No lady with the number prompts...

Bill, I do not get offered "Caller Prompting." I get offered "prompt level"
and my choices are standard or rapid prompts. It seems that different VZW
customers have different voicemail systems with different options.

I would say so. I've never heard of "Cut-Through Paging" and have no idea
what that could be, but I get offered the option to turn "Callback number
prompt" on or off. I have the standard/rapid prompt one too.

There's also one for "Call Capture". What the heck is that?

Like everyone else, what I really want is a way to turn off the canned
message after my recorded message, which serves no purpose.

I set it up when I first started service with VZW 2 years ago here in PA. I
don't know if they changed the option or not, but my friend in Ohio came on with
VZW earlier this year and has a personal message on his cell number as well.

    well.

I have a personal message too, that's not the problem. The problem is that
after my personal plays to the caller, the VZW "computerized lady's voice"
comes on and starts rattling off about 30 seconds of options.... to leave a
voice message press 1, to leave a callback number press 5, when you are
    finished.... blah blah blah.
