Using my V710 to connect my laptop

I have a Moto V710 on a Verizon 5 phone family plan. I would like to
occasionally connect to work to grab my email, maybe 3 or 4 times a month,
    tops.

Could I connect my V710 with a data cable to my laptop and do this? Will I
be able to do this using regular plan minutes? Will Verizon somehow block
this and make me get a data plan to do this?

The laptop has bluetooth built in but from reading here it sounds like
Verizon has the V710 locked out of connecting that way. Is that correct?

    Thanks,
    Jon

Ah, progress. My 'friend' led me to V710.org, which gave me enough info to
configure my bluetooth and get connect to our network at work. A little
window appeared on the phone screen and said 'Data' then said 'connected at
115kbs. Unfortunately, it only stayed connected for about 5 seconds each
time. Not sure why that is.

Could be Verizon cutting me off for transmitting data or my employer's
network for dialing in on the 800 line from within the home area code. Not
    sure but will experiment more.

    Thanks,
    Jon

No, I was using it to call my company's 800 number for RAS dialup.
