Just got this phone, and noticed a couple of unexpected things on the
Banner. at times it displays "Verison Wireless" and at other times it
simply displays "Verizon" Is there a reason for this?

    Anyone??

I have noticed that the change takes place at a common area, when I
pass between the city of Salem & Albany {Oregon} I haven't been able
to determine what it means exactly...and the documentation dosen't
    give any clue either.

    Thanks...

Your PRL (Preferred Roaming List) is a list of ordered signals. When
the phone detects one or more signals it checks the list to decide which
(if any) to use. For each signal listed in the PRL there is a pointer into
the ERI (Enhanced Roaming Indicator). The ERI is a list of banners.
Use a signal, display the banner. Change signals, display the associated
banner. That's the (sort of) technical part.

Why did they put just "Verizon" in the ERI? Who knows... Mistake?

You will only see "Verizon" in your actual "Home System" area. When your phone
aquires the signal of a Verizon system with a (system) ID different from your
home system, The ERI will kick in & Display "Verizon Wireless".
The "Verizon" banner is the one you can modify, delete or change in your
6015i's menus, The vzwireless banner is not modifyable....

Uhhh, maybe, but I don't think so. When you turn your phone on or,
in my case, when you open the flip the ERI banner is displayed. 30
seconds later the "system" banner is displayed. It is the system banner
that you can personalize (on some phones?). I believe you are correct
in that whenever the phone acquires a different signal the ERI banner
will again be displayed (for 30 seconds). I'm not sure just how phone-
specific this behavior is. In my "Home System" area my phone displays
an ERI banner of "Verizon Wireless".

When I boot the phone I first get an animated Kyocera logo/banner
followed by an animated Verizon logo banner (the VERIZONwireless
with the check mark on top). Then when the phone acquires a signal
I get the "Verizon Wireless" ERI banner and 30 seconds later I get my
    personalized "system" banner.

We were talking about the Nokia 6015i, not a Kyocera. The 6015i has 2
modifyable "banners", 1 called a "Wecome note" that displays for a few seconds
upon each power up, & the "Banner" which is factory set to "Verizon" , which
can be deleted or changed in a regular menu setting.
The "hard coded" ERI displays "VerizonWireless" or "Extended Network" when off
the Home system ID, & can't be altered by menu or other keystrike settings.
I have heard of "hacker" changing of the ERI banners by way of a data cable &
non-mfgr software, but we weren't referring to that....

Yes, I understand that. The banner which is factory set
to "Verizon" is the system or personal banner that can be
customized (although I have yet to see one of those that
simply says "Verizon"). I have never seen an ERI banner
that simply says "Verizon". The OP implied that his banner
changes from "Verizon Wireless" to "Verizon" at a particular
place when he is in transit on some regular route? This might
imply a tower change and the display of the ERI banner
corresponding to the signal from the new tower.
I suppose it could be explained if they do something like
always turn on their phone at the same place while in transit
and 30 seconds later (passing the same spot) the phone
switches to the factory set banner...? OR 30 seconds before
the switch they changed signals, the ERI banner was displayed,
and now it switches back to the factory banner.

By the way, the ERI banners are in a file just like the PRL
is and both get downloaded/updated with a *228 option 2.
It's a matter of editing a file on the phone.

"By the way, the ERI banners are in a file just like the PRL is and both get

That is ABSOLOUTLY wrong. There is no was to update the ERI file by doing a
*228 or over the air. The ERI is NOT downloaded or updated OTA, ever. Only the
    PRL file.
I'm not familiar with your terms of "system" banner, but on the Nokia 6015i
there is something called the "banner", seperate from the ERI, & the "welcome
note", The banner is factory set to "Verizon", & is displayed only whenever
you are in your Home system ID. The Welcome note is blank by default. When you
cross over into a different system ID, the ERI banners take over, & display
either "Verizon Wireless", or Extended Network".
The "Banner" can be changed or deleted. The welcome note only displays upon
    power up if added.
I ASSume the OP travels in an ares that crosses 2 VZW systems, causing the
banner change at the particular location along the route.
The whole "30 seconds" thing you described does not happen or pertain to the
    Nokia 6015i.
When you turn on a 6015i it goes straight to & stays on "Verizon" banner if in
Home system ID, or to "Verizon Wireless" if in a non-home VZW system area.
"Roam or Extended Network" of course are displayed if in those areas...

Really? You may be right. I can't remember what my ERI version
was initially but I think it has change over the last 2 years and I've
    never been in a store.

    currently.
    PRL: 50210
    ERI: 50020
    AC plan.

Granted, one would not expect the ERI banners to change
    often.
