I went to the Natick store in Sherwood Plaza. I know the Avon store is
Level 2 also. If these aren't convenient for you, make a few calls and
see if there is one closer to you.

Yesterday, I stopped by a local store (the one I upgraded from v4 to
v6 about 2 weeks ago) and they told me they have v8 ready, but the
system was down so they asked me to come back. Today, I went there and
they tried to upgrade but mine won't take the version they have.

Before that, one tech told the other that they have 2 different
versions (one isn't available yet) and it will report if the version
works with mine or not, and it doesn't. The teck told me that the other
version should be available sometime next week.

Well, even I still haven't got mine to work, but at least I know what
is going on. Also, it seems like some tect knows what firmware is and
    other doesn't.

Due to the many postings here I also went into the local Verizon
Wireless store and they had the firmware update but the cable
connector they had was broken. However the store in CrossGates Mall
was operational and I went in and upgraded the firmware which took
tech support 20 minutes to perform.

I see no noticable difference to the phone. In fact I now get a
crackle in the ear piece when talking to people and a volume spike and
lower which also was not there with version 6.

Does anyone actually know what the Version 8 does? What does it
correct? What enhancements does it make? Maybe the upgrade is not even
    necessary.

Oh well its still a pretty neat phone. And I cannot find anyone who
owns it say anything bad about it. But I do miss that StarTac.

The Chestnut Hill store had 06 for a few months now. Route 9, in the
    Shaws plaza.

I haven't asked about 08, didn't have any bugs worth checking it out.
If anyone could post the official list of bugs fixed with 08 (similar
to the 06 list months ago), it would be appreciated.

Not sure if it will fix that problem, but I did stop by my local Verizon
store today (09/20/03) and got mine upgraded to version 8.

If you think v6 is better on your phone then you can ask them to
downgrade to v6, and most stored should have v6.

If you miss your Star Tac that much then you should be able to find an
    used one in eBay.

I was in the verizon store as I said earlier and the tech there said
he could sell me one for $50 but it had no guarantee since it was a
refurbished. He said that since they did not make them any more it was
a gamble but that the verizon store in Colonie NY does have them. But
he said I could also have them send my old unit back to Motorola and
it would be more than $50. Needless to say I stuck with the new cell
LG Vx 4400 which I paid full price for. it is an excellent phone.

Thanks for the information. Last week (few days ago), I have checked
with the Center store and they have v8 available too *but* the version
they have doesn't work with my VX4400, and they asked me to bring the
phone back sometime this week to try *another* v8 they expect to have it
    available this week.

BTW, before they tried to upgrade one of the tech has mentioned to
other tech that the v8 they have may and may not work.

Just called Sarasota FL store this morning.
Tech said version 8 has not been released to the public yet.
He claims they (at the store) are unable to d-load the version until it's
    publicly released.

My question is how is it all you other people have version 8 software
    available to you now?
Does Verison have different staokes for different folks?????

Well, I went to Dodge Street to get v8 upgraded. After waiting for
almost an hour to my turn, and around 40 minutes later the tech told me
the phone got fried and replaced another one. She told me that the new
phone should have latest S/W version, I took the new phone and left the
store, at the parking lot I checked and it shows v6. I went back and
told the same tech that the current firmware version is v8, and she
checked with other tech and they tried to upgrade it again.

Well, after 30-40 minutes later (usually takes much less but they ran
into some problem so it took longer) and she told me they fried another
one. I then got another replacement and will stay with v6 for awhile, I
may bring it to the Center store see if they have any luck there.

    Anyway, thank for the information.
