I'm new. I just want to check my email using wap.
I don't want to risk messing up any of my phones functionality.

Just want to be able to read email and not be charged extra.

There is so much information out there, it's overwhelming.
I would really appreciate some help !

What email provider? They have to support wap. I use yahoo web email
and wap works fine. If you post your email provider then someone can
    post the steps to connect.

WAP is built into the phone. You won't break any of the phone's
functionality using wap, as it is pretty well isolated from other
    phone functions.

You'll be charged minutes at least. Peak if you use WAP on peak time,
off peak (usually free) if you use WAP on non-peak times. Many
unsupported wap gateways are free except for the aforementioned
minutes. Using Verizon's supported MobileWeb wap functionality costs
$6/month on top of the minutes.
